Project management for trainees
AI, internationalization, soft skills - the workplace is changing faster than ever. However, official training plans are only developing slowly in comparison. That's why NOSTA has the "Future Apprentice" training program. It prepares our apprentices even better for the future of the workplace.
This includes project management training. Over the course of eight weeks, our second and third-year apprentices are taught the basics of project work. "Business cases, milestones and regular meetings: we may have invented this specific project. But we make sure that the important planning phase of a project is closely aligned with everyday life," explains Julia Albers, who works as a project manager at NOSTA and helped organize and carry out the training.
To kick things off, all participating trainees met at the NOSTA Group's InnoLab to learn a few theoretical things about project management together. The project assignment was also revealed there: Divided into several teams, the trainees had to develop ideas for sustainable warehouse logistics at NOSTA locations and fictionally implement them over the following weeks.
In order to show their project progress and discuss any questions, regular digital meetings were held after the launch. "It was a mixture of consulting hours and joint training. That made it possible to eliminate difficulties and find practical solutions together," Julia Albers recounts. The final training session also took place digitally.
But why does NOSTA make this effort outside of the official training plans? The answer is simple: "Working effectively on projects is now commonplace in many professions and is actively demanded by companies," Julia Albers has observed. From NOSTA's point of view, it is therefore only logical to promote these skills as early as possible.
For this reason, the "Future Apprentice" program is even more extensive: in addition to project management, apprentices at NOSTA can also complete driver safety training, take part in a logistics business game or organize a joint day on workplace health management.
