Accurate Braking Needs to be Practiced

What to do if suddenly a child jumps onto the road, the car gets out of control on a wet road or threatens to break out in a narrow curve? Only those who control their vehicle safely on the road have the chance to avoid an accident even in extreme situations. Our trainees learned how to cope with such precarious situations in road traffic on Friday, 15 October. May 2020, as part of a driving safety training at the Ladbergen site. The focus was on the recognition of dangerous situations and the learning of the right driving technique - but also the driving pleasure was of course not neglected on this day.

Before the young drivers took to the wheel, a theory unit was on the agenda. Among other things, the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving ability were discussed. Afterwards, various everyday situations were tested on the outdoor area in order to give the young people a better feeling when dealing with their vehicle: slalom driving, hazard and target braking, cornering, residual speed determination and braking distance estimation as well as support by driving aids such as ABS, ESP or other driving assistance systems. At the wheel of their own cars, our trainees were thus able to train effective steering, braking and evasive manoeuvres in various exercises. Furthermore, a practical test showed them how the braking behaviour of a truck differs from that of a conventional car.

The driving safety training was supervised and accompanied by an instructor from BG and our fleet manager from NOSTA Cargo GmbH Andreas Teuwsen, who initiated and organised the action together with Nora Spieker, HR Development.

The training is included in the seminar program of the NOSTA Academy as a mandatory event for our trainees. This year, four further training sessions will be held to enable all our company's trainees to participate.
